Emily McDonald's Biography

Emily began playing volleyball at the age of 10 in Sudbury, Ontario with her elementary school's team, being the youngest member for the next two years. Soon after realizing her passion for the sport, she trained and tried out for the city's club volleyball team Northern Chill Volleyball Club, whom she competed for the next 5 years. Emily simultaneously played for her high school's women's and the coed team all four years while playing club; she aided her school's team to a NOSSA and OFSAA championship all four years, winning 3 out of 4 NOSSA championships.

After high school, she transitioned into U of T's development volleyball league where she played 3 years before moving overseas to play for New Zealand's Christchurch team. While in NZ she began her coaching career with My first Gym, where she coached youth from the age of 9 months to 13 years old in fitness and sports development. While there, she also had the opportunity to compete at NZ Nationals and she first competed in beach volleyball in Christchurch before returning to Canada.

After returning home to Canada, she played 2 more years of development league while working as a manager for a local gym chain in Toronto. She then spent her last year of undergrad on U of T's varsity team and focussed on that and finished her Honour's Bachelor's degree. Since 2021 she began coaching volleyball with clinic, league and private school training sessions for youth alongside Leaside Volleyball Club - 2022 marked the first year she coached club volleyball. She is so excited to progress yet again in 2023 with prep training and can't wait to see what talent she intersects with Legacy Prep, and her aim is to aid such talent in their pursuit to greatness and beyond.

"There are no magic plays. You win based on effort, unmet focus and being brilliant at the little details". -Steve Ker
